Fascinating New Middle Grade Graphic Novel You Don’t Want to Miss

Thank you, Roaring Book Press, for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I recently had the pleasure of receiving an eARC for a new graphic novel series coming out April 14. And a second edition to come later this year. I originally requested an ARC for this because my oldest child is currently obsessed with all things DOG MAN. So, I figured they would enjoy reading this one alongside me. Boy, was I right.

My Thoughts on the eARC

SASHIMI by Dan Santat is a hilarious middle-grade graphic novel that is sure to have your young reader giggling from cover to cover. Sashimi is undercover at a local school, searching for the Beast of Barnacle Bay.

This short but sweet graphic novel is practically guaranteed to have your middle-grade reader snorting milk through their nose. Readers will enjoy following the Fishboy Sashimi as he navigates life above water while trying to find others like him. This is sure to be another Elementary School hit.

My only true complaint is that the story felt so short! I wanted to read more about our brazen main character and his learn more about his very interesting backstory. I suppose I will have to wait until September to check out the second edition, SASHIMI AND THE FIELD TRIP OF DOOM.

A star rating system with four out of five stars filled.

The eldest rated this book a glowing 5 stars, and I am inclined to agree. However, I think I’m going to give it 4 stars because I really wished it would have been a longer story. There were some very high points to the story I loved—and still think about. That being said, there are also a few points in the story that felt very rushed.
